The proposed programme, Bachelor of Arts in Afsal ul Ulama, is conceived to be one of the duly approved by the competent academic bodies of the University. The purpose of this programme is to provide a firm foundation in Arabic studies, with a focus on Islamic law, history, theology, and philosophy. It also aims to inculcate basic communication and aesthetic competency in aspirants. The Programme consists of an introduction to Arabic grammar and studies on literature from the Jahiliyya period to the modern period. Elective courses on Indo Arab Literature, translation, women's writings, and spoken and media Arabic are also included in the undergraduate syllabus. The Programme provides practice in developing secretarial skills in Arabic. The programme is organised on a semester basis and it contains 6 semesters spread over 3 years. The learner has to complete Seven Discipline Core (DC) courses, three Discipline Specific Elective (DE) courses of their choice, four Ancillary Courses(AC), two core courses in English and MIL, two Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AC), two Skill Enhancement Courses (SE), one Skill Enhancement Compulsory Course (SC), two Generic Elective (GE) courses from the pool defined by other disciplines than the ones chosen by the learner as major subjects for his/her study and one Dissertation/Project course to fulfil the requirements of the proposed programme.

Towards the end of the program, learners will :

  1. Develop a deeper understanding of the Islamic teachings from Arabic texts.
  2. Develop an ability to effectively communicate both orally and verbally in Arabic.
  3. Develop self-confidence and skills for working independently and in a team.
  4. Have a foundation on literary theories, movements and history of Arabic literature.
  5. Develop the ability to critically look at concepts, beliefs and ideas in society, while also learning to critically analyze texts and cultural artifacts.
  6. Have an increase in awareness of the general issues prevailing in society.
