The B.A History Programme enables the learner to have a basic understanding of the core subjects. As the practitioners of different disciplines are fast approaching a no-man’s land, this programme enables the learner to opt for any one of these subjects for the PG programme and facilitates interdisciplinary research. The B.A History programme is organised on a semester basis and the programme has 6 semesters spread over 3 years. The learner needs to complete all the required courses for a total of 132 credits. In this Programme, the learner has to complete Seven Discipline Core (DCC) courses, three Discipline Specific Elective (DSE) courses each from the two choices given, four Ancillary Courses, two core courses in English and MIL, two Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECC), two Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), one Skill Enhancement Compulsory Course (SECC), two Generic Elective (GE) courses from the pool defined by other disciplines than the ones chosen by the learner as major subjects for his or her study and one Dissertation/Project course to fulfil the requirements of the programme.

Upon the succesful completion of the BA History programme, the learner will be expected to be :

  1. Groomed through a structured format of enquiry, analysis, and interpretation of historical knowledge.
  2. The learner will be enlightened with challenges and excitements in historical enquiry and research with adequate methodological backup.
  3. The learner will be able to understand the changing trends in history, such as gender history, eco- history, oral history, etc.
  4. The learner will be trained to ask new questions in a new context with a view to discerning new interpretations or new information or new ideas.
  5. The learner will be equipped in the grammar of the disciplines, and they will be motivated to pursue academic programmes leading to awards of higher titles.
  6. The learner will be able to assess the significance of contemporary developments all over the world.
  7. The learner will be able to enhance their knowledge base to excel in competitive examinations or careers.
