SREENARAYANAGURU OPEN UNIVERSITY (SGOU) focuses to maintain
accuracy in providing the information through this site. In case
of any doubt, the visitor/user is requested to get clarification
through the website/helpdesk of the university.
The
user shall not upload, post, transmit, publish, or distribute any
material or information that is unlawful, or which may
potentially be perceived as being harmful, threatening, abusive,
harassing, defamatory, libelous, vulgar, obscene, or racially,
ethnically, or otherwise objectionable.
The user
expressly states that the detailed profile information/data being
entered into this portal by the candidate is correct and complete
in all respects and does not contain any false, distorted,
manipulated, fraudulent, or misleading facts or averments. SGOU
concretely disclaims any liability arising out of the said
profile insertion/information/data filled by the user in the
portal. Further, the user agrees to compensate SGOU for all
losses borne by the institution due to any false, distorted,
manipulated, defamatory, libelous, vulgar, obscene, fraudulent or
misleading facts or otherwise objectionable averments made by the
user on the portal sgou.ac.in.
The
user is solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of
the User password, User identification codes and all activities
and transmission performed through the user portal and shall be
solely responsible for carrying out any updates in the portal.
SGOU assumes no responsibility or liability for the improper or
inaccurate use of information uploaded in the candidate portal.
The user/visitor of the university website does hereby
specifically agree that he/she shall, at all times, comply with
the requirements of the Information Technology Act. He/She shall
abide by the rules, regulations, guidelines, bye-laws, and
notifications made thereunder while assessing or feeding any
profile /resume/ updating of credentials/certificates/insertion
or information/data into the sgou.ac.in. The user/visitor
to the website does further unequivocally declare that
in case he/she violates any provisions of the Information
Technology Act, 2000 and/or rules, regulations, guidelines,
byelaws and notifications made thereunder, he/she alone shall be
responsible for all his/her acts, and that he/she alone shall be
accountable for civil and criminal liability thereunder or under
any other law for the time being in force.
The User/
subscriber/visitor to sgou.ac.in is
prohibited from uploading, posting, transmitting, updating or
sharing any information that:
- belongs to another person and to which the user does not have any rights;
- is grossly harmful, harassing, blasphemous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, pedophilic, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically objectionable, disparaging, relating or encouraging money laundering or gambling, or otherwise unlawful in any manner whatever; harm minors in any way;
- infringes any patent, trademark, copyright or other proprietary rights;
- violates any law in force at the time of such activities;
- deceives or misleads the addressee about the origin of such messages or communicates any information which is grossly offensive or menacing in nature; impersonates another person;
- contains software viruses or any other computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer resource; threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security or sovereignty of India, friendly relations with foreign states, or public order or causes incitement to the commission of any cognizable offence or prevents investigation of any offence or is insulting any other nation.
SGOU further reserves its right to use the data for internal
academic and student management purposes.

Instructions for Learners Before Programme Registration
Please Read Carefully Before Proceeding
All applicants are advised to read the following instructions carefully before starting the online registration process for admission to a programme of Sreenarayanaguru Open University (SGOU). These instructions will help applicants complete the registration correctly, avoid mistakes, and ensure smooth admission, communication, and academic processing.
1. Read the Prospectus and University Regulations
Before submitting the application, applicants must carefully read:
- University Prospectus
- SGOU Rules and Regulations
- Programme-specific eligibility conditions
- Fee details
- Course structure
- Admission instructions
- Examination and academic requirements
Applicants should ensure that they fully understand the programme requirements before proceeding with registration.
2. Enter Correct and Accurate Details
Enter all personal, academic, contact and programme-related details carefully.
- Application details cannot be modified after submission.
- Incorrect information may affect admission, examination, certificates and other services.
- Applicants are solely responsible for the accuracy of the submitted information.
Please verify every entry before final submission.
3. Choose the Programme Carefully
Select the programme only after verifying eligibility and academic requirements.
- Programme cannot be changed after submission.
- Selected courses cannot be changed after submission.
- Ensure that you are applying for the correct programme.
4. Use Your Own Email ID and Mobile Number
Use only your personal email address and mobile number.
Do NOT use:
- Another person's email ID
- Another person's mobile number
- Temporary or inactive email ID
- Shared mobile number
These details will be used for all future communications from the University.
5. OTP Verification is Mandatory
The registered email ID and mobile number will be verified through OTP.
- Ensure your mobile number is active.
- Ensure your email ID is accessible.
- OTP messages should be receivable without delay.
6. Future Communications from the University
All future communications will be sent to your registered email ID and/or mobile number.
- Admission confirmation
- Learner login credentials
- Study materials
- Examination registration
- Assignment submission
- Fee payment
- University notifications
- Academic updates
- Certificate-related matters
Please check your registered email regularly.
7. Selection of Learner Support Centre
- Select the Learner Support Centre nearest and most convenient to you.
- The selected Learner Support Centre cannot be changed after submission.
- You may be required to visit the Centre for academic or administrative purposes.
8. Ragging is Strictly Prohibited
Ragging is strictly prohibited in SGOU. Any learner found involved directly or indirectly will face disciplinary action under University Rules, UGC Regulations and applicable laws.
SGOU is committed to providing a safe, respectful and learner-friendly academic environment.
Mandatory APAAR ID / ABC ID and DEB ID
9. APAAR ID / ABC ID is Mandatory
As per UGC guidelines, every learner pursuing higher education in India must have an APAAR ID / ABC ID.

10. What is ABC / APAAR ID?
The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) is a digital repository established by the UGC for storing, managing and accessing academic credits.
APAAR ID / ABC ID is a unique 12-digit learner identification number that supports academic records, credit transfer and future academic progression.
11. DEB ID is Mandatory for ODL Programmes
UGC DEB ID is mandatory for admission to Open and Distance Learning programmes. Learners must register with the Distance Education Bureau and generate the DEB ID before completing admission.
12. Important Instructions for Creating DEB ID
- Create APAAR ID / ABC ID first if you do not already have one.
- Use your own personal email ID.
- Use your own personal mobile number.
- Provide correct personal and academic details.
- The University ERP login credentials will be generated using the email registered in the DEB portal.
13. Correction of DEB Details
If any mismatch exists in your DEB registration details, update them using:
https://deb.ugc.ac.in/StudentDEBId/UpdateDebDetails
Complete the corrections before proceeding with admission.
Transfer Certificate
14. Uploading Transfer Certificate
Upload the Transfer Certificate wherever applicable.
15. If Transfer Certificate is Not Available
Upload a self-attested affidavit clearly stating the reason for the non-availability of the Transfer Certificate.
Important Notice for E-Grants Students
16. Separate Bank Account Requirement
Eligible learners must open a new zero-balance bank account exclusively for E-Grants transactions.
- New zero-balance account
- Aadhaar linked
- PAN linked
- Only for E-Grants transactions
- No personal transactions should be carried out through this account
17. Existing Bank Accounts Will Not Be Accepted
Existing bank accounts are not acceptable for E-Grants processing. Applications without the required new Aadhaar-linked and PAN-linked zero-balance account will not be forwarded for further processing.
Final Checklist Before Submission
- Prospectus and regulations have been read.
- Correct programme has been selected.
- Eligibility has been verified.
- Own email ID and mobile number have been used.
- OTP verification completed.
- APAAR ID / ABC ID created.
- DEB ID created.
- DEB details verified.
- Learner Support Centre selected carefully.
- Academic documents uploaded.
- Transfer Certificate / Affidavit uploaded wherever applicable.
- E-Grants applicants have opened the required bank account.
- All details verified before final submission.
Important Reminder
Do not rush through the registration process. Read all instructions carefully, keep all required documents ready, verify every entry and submit the application only after ensuring that all information is correct.
Submission of incorrect, incomplete or misleading information may result in delay, rejection of the application, or other academic and administrative difficulties.
