The purpose of the programme is to introduce learners to the basics of English language and literature, by developing the ability to appreciate and critically approach literary texts. It also equips them with linguistic, academic, and analytical skills. The various courses in the programme are designed to benefit learners in terms of increased prospects in higher education and employability.

Upon successful completion of the programme, the learner is expected to:

  1. have a thorough grounding in English Language and Literature, its history, movements, and theoretical formulations;
  2. have enhanced communication skills for its productive use in society;
  3. have developed a critical approach to ideas and concepts leading to an independent perspective on social issues;
  4. have sharpened interpretative skills leading to an enriching experience in the reading of literature;
  5. be equipped to move on to higher studies;
  6. be better placed as far as career opportunities are concerned; vii) have imbibed humane and ethical values to become responsible citizens.
