The programme BA Philosophy with specialization in Sreenarayanaguru Studies consists of an introduction to western and Indian philosophy as well as the contemporary debates in philosophy. The program focuses on providing a substantial philosophical foundation as well as its applicable sense, specifically drawing inspiration from the works of the social reformer and philosopher Sreenarayanaguru in philosophy, ethics, poetry and spirituality. The various courses in this program are designed with an intention of cultivating in learners a philosophical outlook and critical approach to social issues along with the academic skill to appreciate the poetic and spiritual texts of Sreenarayanaguru. By successful completion of the course, the learners will be able to approach philosophy as an academic discipline in the specific socio-cultural and political contexts of India.

B.A Philosophy with Specialization in Sreenaryanaguru Studies is a 3-year degree course in the stream of Humanities and Social Sciences. Some of the prominent attributes are listed below:

  1. A Rich Introduction to Western and Indian philosophy: The learner will get exposure to different branches of philosophy, such as epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, social and political philosophy and a chance to approach philosophy through both western and Indian lenses. The course will also cultivate in the learners a philosophical rigour in their approach to contemporary debates in social, cultural and political spheres.
  2. Appreciation of Sreenarayanaguru’s Philosophy: The learner will have an awareness and appreciation of Sreenarayanaguru’s social and spiritual philosophy and that his immense contribution to the social and spiritual reformation of the Indian population. The course will also give access to Sreenarayanaguru’s vast literature in philosophy, ethics, poetry and spirituality with enriched textual interpretation by various scholars allowing the learners to understand his literary contribution to the world.
  3. Enhanced Theoretical and Practical Skills: The learner would be imbibed with applied philosophy skills and a theoretical outlook. They will be able to deal with areas such as applied ethics and social and political philosophy in general and specifically in the Indian context.
  4. Critical and Open Outlook: The learner would be able to approach the world with a critical and open mind enabling them to contribute to the multicultural richness in societies such as India.
  5. Aptitude for Research: The learner would be imparted with an aptitude and taste for higher education and research in disciplinary and inter-disciplinary areas and fields.
  6. Employability: The learner would be equipped with academic excellence and teaching skills required for employment in philosophy and interdisciplinary subjects.
