The purpose of the programme is to introduce learners to the basics of English language and literature, by developing the ability to appreciate and critically approach literary texts. It also equips them with linguistic, academic, and analytical skills. The various courses in the programme are designed to benefit learners in terms of increased prospects in higher education and employability.

MA English Language and Literature is a 2-year postgraduate course in the stream of arts and humanities that enables learners to acquaint themselves with different genres like drama, novels, poetry, prose, etc in English. Some of the prominent attributes are listed below.

1. A Deep appreciation of Literature: The learners would have wide exposure and deep knowledge of English Literature and critical tools, enabling them to enjoy a full range of aesthetic experiences with enriched textual interpretation.

2. Enhanced Capacity in the use of linguistic format: The learners would develop competency in LSRW and help them navigate in everyday and professional settings.

3. High Propensity to Employment: The learners would be imbibed with the skills required for employment in diverse areas like teaching, media, corporate offices, etc. across the globe.

4. Aptitude for Research: The learner would be instilled with an aptitude for research and higher studies across disciplines.

5. Enhancing Alternative Perspectives: The learners would have an awareness of different kinds of literature across the globe and an acquaintance with different periods, genres, styles, concepts and literary devices inculcating in them alternative perspectives.
