The Undergraduate Programme in Psychology offered by the University is specifically designed to cater to the unique needs of distance learners. The programme provides a comprehensive understanding of human behaviour and mental processes, encompassing fundamental theories, research methods, and key areas such as cognitive, social and developmental psychology. Emphasising critical thinking, scientific enquiry and ethical considerations, the program ensures a well-rounded education, equipping the learners for further studies and diverse career paths in clinical, counselling, educational and organisational psychology. Overall, the programme delivers a thorough understanding of psychological principles and their applications, preparing the learners towards the path of psychology, and contributing to the field and society. The learner is expected to complete the following to fulfil the requirements of the proposed programme:
7 Discipline Core (DC) courses in Psychology, which are courses offered in the chosen major discipline (6 credits each)
3 Discipline Specific Elective (DE) courses from a choice of 6 given courses, spread over the IV and V semesters and are the elective courses offered in Psychology (6 credits each)
4 Ancillary Courses (AN), segments of the discipline that support the core courses to qualify for the programme. These are drawn from two related disciplines: History and Sociology (6 credits each)
4 Language Core Courses (LC) 2 in English (ENG) and 2 in Modern Indian Languages (MIL) (6 credits each)
2 Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AC): Environmental Science and English for Communication offered in the first and second semesters of the programme (4 credits each)
2 Skill Enhancement Courses (SE) which are the skill-based courses offered in the discipline (2 credits each)
1 Skill Enhancement Compulsory Course (SC): Humanism and Logic, the mandatory course included in the third semester (2 credits each).
2 Generic Elective (GE) courses from the options offered by other disciplines different from the preferred major subject of the learner (2 credits each)
1 Dissertation / Project Course (PR), a mandatory course which is included in the final semester (6 credits)
The programme will enable the learners to:
· demonstrate the concepts and language of psychology
· explain the major theories of psychology
· broaden theirperspectives by describing how psychology relates to other academic domains orinterdisciplinary studies
· demonstrate anunderstanding of theories and research on learning, cognition, individual differences,biological foundations of behaviour, developmental changes, and the practicalapplication of psychology
· list the mainapplications of psychology
· describe howpsychological theories and concepts apply to real-world situations
· acknowledge the need for ethical conduct inall facets of psychology’s science and practice
