The proposed programme, Master of Arts in History is duly approved by the competent academic bodies of the university. The learners are expected to enjoy the flexibility of choice from an impressive basket of majors. The choice-based credit system deployed in the delivery of the programmes ensures the relevance of the pedagogy to the practices across the country. The programme is organised on a semester basis, and the programme has 4 semesters spread over 2 years, they need to complete all the required courses for a total of 72 credits. However, the learners can earn an additional credit of 8 credits on successful completion of 2 courses under the Cross Border Discipline over and above the approved course for the admitted Programme. Details of the courses are given below. *Discipline Core Courses (DC) are the courses offered in the chosen Major disciplines. Each course carries 4 credits. *Discipline-Specific Elective (DE) Courses are the elective courses offered from the selected discipline. Each course carries 4 credits *Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AC). They are offered in the first and second semesters of the course, which are Discipline Specific (DS) and Institution Specific (IS). Each course carries 2 credits. *Skill Enhancement Compulsory Course (SC) is a mandatory course which is in the third semester. Each course carries 2 credits. *Dissertation course (DP) is a mandatory course which is in the final semester. The course carries 4 credits. *Cross Border Discipline Courses (CB) - CB courses are elective courses, non-compulsory, chosen generally from an unrelated discipline/subject. A maximum of 2 courses with 4 credits each, not exceeding 1 course per semester, is allowed.

Towards the end of the programme, learners will be able to:

evaluate the nature of the modern discipline of history and the different trends in writing history
understand how history reflects in the socio-economic and political undercurrents of the day
acquire conceptual and theoretical clarity to analyse historical processes
understand the values of democracy, secularism, humanism and scientific temper
develop critical spirit and the ability to do independent research
understand the dangers of ahistorical thought processes in our society
write competitive examinations for securing lucrative jobs in government or other public/private sectors etc.
