The proposed programme, Bachelor of Arts in Malayalam, is conceived to be one of duly approved by the competent academic bodies of the university. The students are expected to enjoy the flexibility of choice from an impressive basket of electives. The choice-based credit system deployed in the delivery of the programmes ensures the relevance of the pedagogy with the practices across the country. The programme is organized on a semester basis and the programme has 8 semesters spread over 4 years. The programme BA Malayalam, offered through distance mode will be closely aligned with the vision and mission of the higher education sector, in vowing to ensure knowledge-based, student-focussed, and quality and cost-conscious but socially responsible education. BA Malayalam will be a feeder programme for the MA Malayalam programmes offered by various universities and colleges at the national and state levels.

In keeping with the overall mission of the Sreenarayanaguru Open University, to ensure accessibility of quality higher education to all, the programme BA Malayalam Language, envisages to impart knowledge in Malayalam Language and literature, and skills in applying it to the current and evolving areas of activities. To help learners to gain substantial foundation on various literary forms, the history of Malayalam language, various literary forms, grammar and linguistic aspects of Malayalam.

To encourage understanding the origin and development of the Malayalam language and its scientific connections to the Dravidian family of Languages.

To facilitate the students to interact with the cyber-Malayalam.

To provide the broad vision of the historical development and the evolution of the sensibility in Malayalam.

To understand the compositional analysis in Malayalam writings.

To enable them to understand visual, print and cyber media.

To make them familiarize new trends in Malayalam.

To facilitate development of communication skills in Malayalam.

To ensure productive application of knowledge acquired through the proposed programme of study.

To broaden their perspectives by taking them through interdisciplinary forms of knowledge.

To enable learners to explore literary works in Malayalam.

To equip the students with critical tools necessary to enrich textual interpretation.

To acquaint them with the different genres, styles, concepts and literature.
